A family-run wastewater and drainage business that began on Waiheke Island in 2017 and now brings the world's most trusted treatment technology to homes and businesses across New Zealand.

Where we started

A Gradient Drainage was established on Waiheke Island in 2017, servicing Waiheke and the wider Hauraki Gulf. We're family-owned and family-run, and we've built the business the way the islands demand. That means doing the job properly, standing behind our work, and treating every site as if it were our own.

Island work shaped who we are. Steep sections, tight access, sensitive coastal ground, and high environmental expectations meant there was no room for shortcuts. Year after year of solving those problems gave our team something you can't fake: real expertise on difficult sites, and a deep respect for systems that have to perform without fail to protect both your family and the environment around you.

Meet the founder

The business is led by founder William, who brings more than 20 years of experience across New Zealand and Australia, working on both residential and commercial projects.

That two-country, two-sector background matters. It means the systems we recommend aren't guesswork. They're informed by two decades of seeing what lasts, what fails, and what actually holds up under real-world loads, climates, and regulations on either side of the Tasman.

Bringing Kubota to New Zealand

To bring that technology here, we partnered with True Water, the distributor for Kubota wastewater systems across the Pacific. Through that partnership we supply, install, and service Kubota's range in New Zealand, from the compact KZII home system right up to large commercial and community plants.

It also means that behind a local, family-run team sits the engineering depth of True Water and the manufacturing pedigree of Kubota. On a single home or a large commercial project, you get the same thing: a system chosen on merit, installed properly, and backed for the long term.

What we stand for

  • Family values, in practice. We're a family business, and we deal with people the way we'd want to be dealt with: straight answers, no shortcuts, and work we're happy to put our name to.

  • Quality that lasts. We chose Kubota because we won't fit a system we wouldn't put on our own property. Reliability and long service life come first.

  • Protecting what matters. Good wastewater treatment protects your family's health and the environment you live in.

  • One team, start to finish. Supply, installation, commissioning, and servicing, with one point of contact through the whole journey.

Let's talk about your project

Whether it's a home on a tricky site or a large commercial development, we'd be glad to help you find the right system and do it properly.
